LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 5, 2008) − This weekend the University of Kentucky Art Museum will open “Miniature Worlds: Art from India” bringing a major exhibition of Indian art never seen in Kentucky before to the Bluegrass. The exhibition, showcasing a rich display of watercolors, drawings and sculpture spanning seven centuries and depicting India’s varied cultural traditions, runs Feb. 10 through May 11.

“Miniature Worlds” is drawn from the Leland C. and Paula Wyman Collection at The Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, Mass. The exhibition at UK Art Museum was made possible with major support from the Bluegrass Indo-American Civic Society (BIACS) and the Friends of the UK Art Museum, as well as promotional partners Community Trust Bank, Insight Communications, Jordan-Chiles, Lexington Visitors and Convention Bureau, Mason Structure and Messer Construction.
In addition to “Miniature Worlds,” UK Art Museum will also make available for viewing “The Inner Eye: Folk Art of India.” This exhibition, which includes interpretations of everyday life in India and important contemporary events, is from the William and Ann Oppenhimer Collection and was organized by the University of Richmond Museum.
“Miniature Worlds” is a ticketed exhibition; tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for seniors. UK alumni, faculty/staff, students and UK Art Museum and BIACS members can view the exhibition for free. All museum patrons may visit any exhibition at the UK Art Museum for free on Friday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m.
The UK Art Museum will present numerous public programs and workshops on various aspects of daily life in India throughout the run of the exhibition.
